Salus has made it to the finals of the German Sustainability Award. This means that the family business counts among the most sustainable companies in Germany. The ceremony will take place in Düsseldorf at the end of November.
In its 17-year history of the awards, this is the second time that Salus has made it to the finals, the first time being in 2022. The company has high hopes of taking home the award and rightly so: For decades, sustainability has been deeply anchored in the DNA of the family business. The second largest investment in the company’s history is currently nearing completion and in just 1.5 years, a biomass heating plant has been built at the company site in Bruckmühl. The heating plant generates 100% regenerative process heat for use in production. Instead of gas, the plant runs with old wood that can no longer be used otherwise. By doing so, Salus reduces its emissions, also for heat production, to the absolute minimum and can save 1.500 t of CO2 from fossil sources per year. The biomass heating plant is not the only outstanding flagship project in the field of technical environmental protection and since 2022, Salus has been producing cold power with high efficiency thanks to a worldwide unique and award-winning cooling installation system. One kWh of electricity can be transformed into up to 14 kWh of cold. For more than 20 years, Salus has been purchasing 100% green electricity, however the majority of the company’s power needs can be covered by own hydropower and solar energy sources.
Since 1996, Salus has been “EMAS” certified according to one of the most sophisticated sustainability management systems worldwide and this year was the first company in Germany certified according to the new standard “We impact”. Salus is and has always been a sustainability pioneer.
On 28th November the going will get tough: The most famous German Sustainability Award will be announced in Düsseldorf.
