Salus expands production and laboratory

At the Salus premises in Bruckmühl the expansion of the production has started. The planned new building stands out due to a sustainable and modern design.

Salus is growing and now increases its capacities for manufacturing. The expansion of the production and the laboratory was necessary due to a lack of space and will create room for new developments. The estimated construction time is approx. 2 years. The entire project will preferably be realized by local companies.

Green architecture and exciting design

Architect Hartmut Hinz has already proven his sense of sustainable and natural architecture when planning the construction of the Salus canteen. For the expansion of the production, it was important to him to adapt the design to the local townscape. "As architects we have a responsibility towards the builder but also towards the community, especially the citizens of Bruckmühl," Hartmut Hinz explains his approach. "The new building with its dynamic form and the curved band floating 5 meters above the ground brings a row of trees back from the Salus premises to public space. This image also symbolizes our aim to compensate any interference with nature."

Measures for sustainability

The new building has to comply with all requirements of the guidelines for "Good Manufacturing Practice" (GMP) for pharmaceuticals and should be as sustainable as possible at the same time. At Salus, Thomas Günther, environmental officer and technical factory manager, is responsible for the construction. "As usual, at Salus we will use all possibilities of technical environmental protection. The management of biodiversity is particularly important to us." Thus, it is planned to plant grass on the roofs, waste heat from production will be used for heating the building and a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof. As the Salus premises comprise many green areas, the new building will increase land sealing only from 16 to 18%.

Herb garden moved

Before the construction of the new building, the company had its herb garden at this plot of land. This herb garden has been moved to another area, where Salus already has experimental fields for medicinal plants.
